NOTES:
Grammar Units and Grammar Drills
The Grammar Units are presentation units. The Grammar Units contain short quiz sections that provide you with immediate feedback. The Grammar Drill corresponding to each Grammar Unit provides an in-depth evaluation of your grasp of the material in that unit. The drills give explanations for questions that were answered incorrectly, so they serve as a learning tool as well as an evaluation tool. The order of the answer choices in the drills is randomized so you can use the drills as exercises.
Vocabulary Units, Word Power Units, and Word Check Units
The Vocabulary Units are presentation units that show you how words can be constructed by combining root forms with prefixes and suffixes. The Word Power Units give you definitions and usage examples of particular words to increase your vocabulary. Each Word Check Unit corresponds to one of the Word Power Units. These units are used to evaluate your understanding of the words presented in the Word Power Unit and to reinforce your knowledge through drill practice. The drill will display a list of any words that are incorrectly identified during the drill. You can review these words by using the Review format of the corresponding Word Power Unit.
Spelling Units, Spelling Word Lists, and Spell Check Units
The Spelling Units show you useful spelling rules, exceptions to these rules, and a discussion of frequently misspelled or misused words. The Spelling Word Lists are printed lists (see the course materials section of this manual) used to prepare for the corresponding Spell Check Unit. The Spell Check Units are used to evaluate your ability to spell the words in the list and to reinforce the spelling through drill practice. A list containing any words that were misspelled during the drill can be displayed at the end of the drill.
