COBOL Module IV

COURSE OVERVIEW:

This module covers the COBOL verbs needed for processing multiple-level tables, including the use of the SEARCH and SEARCH ALL statements. Using the COBOL SORT verb is also covered.

PREREQUISITES:

COBOL Module III or equivalent skills

COURSE LENGTH:

This course contains 5 lesson units and 1 test.

UNIT-BY-UNIT TOPICAL OUTLINE:

Unit 1 - Two-level tables, three-level tables, multi-level tables, modifying a program to use a two-level table

Unit 2 - Table lookups, indexing, indexing versus subscripting, performing a sequential search using the SEARCH verb, performing a binary search using the SEARCH ALL statement

Unit 3 - Modifying a program to include SEARCH and SEARCH ALL

Unit 4 - Types of sorting, the SORT verb, coding sorts in COBOL 74 versus COBOL 85

Unit 5 - Modifying a program to include a SORT statement

Test - Comprehensive final exam
