This course picks up where Introduction to MS-DOS leaves off, and takes you into power-user topics. These topics help you to master the sophisticated DOS commands that separate the ordinary user from the "computer expert." These commands greatly increase your control over the computer, allowing you to save time by automating many routine tasks.

Introduction to MS-DOS or equivalent

This course contains 10 lesson units and 1 test.

Unit 1 - Disk data organization, the File Allocation Table, the CHKDSK command, and the XCOPY command

Unit 2 - Batch files, the REM command, the ECHO command, the PAUSE command, replaceable parameters, the PATH command, and AUTOEXEC batch files

Unit 3 - Input and output redirection, piping, the MORE filter, the SORT filter, and appending to a file

Unit 4 - The FIND filter, DOS organization: the BIOS, the Command Processor, the Kernel, and the DOS system files

Unit 5 - Standard device drivers, installable device drivers, the CONFIG.SYS file, the DEVICE command, ANSI.SYS, and RAM disks

Unit 6 - Advanced batch files, the IF command, the GOTO command, labels, the SHIFT command, looping

Unit 7 - The operating environment, system defaults, and using CONFIG.SYS commands to customize the operating environment

Unit 8 - DOS version 4.0 versus DOS version 5.0: modified commands and new commands

Unit 9 - The DOS 5.0 full-screen editor, setting up the editor, using the pull-down menus, cursor movement, editing features, block operations, and file handling

Unit 10 - Installing DOS 6, new commands, renaming directories, the DELTREE command, getting help, Microsoft backup features, Microsoft anti-virus, the MEMMAKER utility, the DBLSPACE utility
